This morning I’ve been thinking about God’s love–how totally foundation it is to everything I believe, feel, need, and am. I think sometimes as Christians we get caught up in the doing of our faith. Trying to live out our Christianity by seeking to live a righteous life. Don’t get me wrong. Living righteously is important, but sometimes we put the cart before the horse. We try to do Christian things before we know Christ. We rush about trying act like a Christian and we forget the best thing of all: The joy of knowing God’s love.
There was a time I questioned whether or not He really loved me. But not anymore. The more I ask Him to help me know Him, the more convinced I am that He loves me.
Oh, there are plenty of times I’ve been mad at God. Times I didn’t like the way my life was going and thought He could do a better job of helping me reach my goals and maybe give me a few more of my desires. But once I got over my whining, I realized that His love really is enough. Life is livable just because I am loved by my Creator.
Today my prayer mirrors an old hymn I grew up on. “Deeper, deeper, in the love of Jesus daily let me go . . . “
May that be the journey you and I both take today–one that carries us farther into His love.
“And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts as you trust in him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love really is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is so great you will never fully understand it. Then you will be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” Ephesians 3:18-19 (NLT)
