The aroma of homemade cinnamon rolls. A weekend in the mountains. The first spring flower in my flowerbed. A lacy snowflake glittering in a porch light. Godiva chocolate.
That’s what my weekend at the Whole Hearted Mother conference was like for me. Thank you Sally Clarkson and Linda Dillow for speaking life into my soul, renewing my vison, and getting me back on track in life and especially in homeschooling.
Here’s the most important things I took away from the weekend:
1) I long to know Jesus. Pursuit of Him and His presence is more important than anything else.
2) I want to know Christ in such a way as to make my children thirsty for Him. (And that makes my readers thirsty for Him.)
3) I need to get back to why I started homeschooling in the first place. I gotta let go of the drudergy of doing things in my homeschool because I think I “should” or because I think it will improve my kid’s test scores or make them wildly successful or some other stupid reason. If my kids fall in love with Christ it doesn’t matter if my best friend’s kids blow the tops off of every standardized test and mine don’t. Loving Jesus is paramount. That is why I work. That is my prayer for my children. I homeschool because I want my kids to have passionate souls that are sold out to God, not because I want to make academic stars or prove I’m some kind of wonderful person by how amazing my kids are.
5) I love great books. Great books shape the souls of people and help them discover their mission in the epic of life. If I do nothing else in my homeschool, I must share Christ and great books with my children. If I raise passionate children who love Jesus, follow Him, and are willing to engage in the saga of living as if His kingdom matters, I will have reached my goal. If they love good books, I am twice blessed.
6) Prayer is beat of my heart and the strength of my days. Nothing is more important that hanging out with Jesus.
