My Uncle

I can honestly say there has never been a time I wasn’t delighted to be in the presence of my uncle. I always knew I was welcome where he was. He lovingly teased me, told amazing stories, and made me feel special. He fascinates me. It seems he can take anything broken and fix it. He also makes old, junky things beautiful. Farm implements become lamps. Worn horse collars become mirrors. When I graduated from High School He took an old trunk my grandpa had given me and refurbished it. It sits in my living room today, 21 years later. A couple of years ago he traveled 13 hours to my house just because he missed my brother and me.

A 900 lb bale of hay fell on my uncle this week. It dropped onto him from 9 feet above. He barely escaped death. I’m told he called for me in his morphine induced sleep. The doctors are going to try to stablilize his pelvis with a metal band around his waiste and all kinds of rods and pins. If his pelvis isn’t set right it could sever his nerves and blood vessels, and if he lived he would be paralyzed.

I’m grieving tonight. So far away from him and my family. Please pray for my uncle–and all of us.
